The first Thursday of August the SCAJ holds an annual convention at the Westin Resort on Hilton Head Island. This 12-hour Continuing Legal Education seminar is packed with speakers that know the law and issues affecting trial lawyers from South Carolina and across the country. A full line of topics are offered including ethics, torts and negligence, workers compensation, employment law, social security, criminal law, environmental law and a special seminar for young lawyers. Social events include receptions and a banquet on the last night of the convention. Each year the SCAJ has a special featured speaker address the convention. Past featured speakers include, Nancy Grace from CourtTV, Jeffrey Wigand, tobacco company whistle blower whose story was made into the film The Insider, Johnny Cochran, Vincent Bugliosi, Erin Brockovich, who exposed the ground water damage created by Pacific Gas and Electric leading to one of the nations largest successful court cases to protect the environment, and other national newsmakers.
This seminar has been described as "the best seminar in the region, if not the country". Each year the SCAJ's Auto Torts Seminar is scheduled for the first weekend after Thanksgiving weekend at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead, in Atlanta Georgia. Trial lawyers from across the south gather to hone their skills, earn 9 hours of CLE credit and experience the best holiday shopping, entertainment and food Atlanta has to offer.
