Prologue SCAJ, thanks to its history of strong leadership, and most especially to the conscientious efforts of its present officers and staff, is now stronger than ever in membership, finances, services and recognition. Since 1977, SCAJ has been the state's largest voluntary legal professional association, and active participation by the membership is growing steadily. The issues our Founders faced when they organized the South Carolina trial bar in 1958 are still with us, though much progress has been made. SCAJ has been fortunate in having talented and capable staff members to assist in and administer new programs; but it owes its greatest debt to those members who have over the years given much valuable time and effort to provide leadership, and to set the direction and goals of the Association. SCAJ has become a strong voice in the affairs of South Carolina - not only for its members but also for the consumers they represent. NOTE: This history has been compiled through the years due to the cooperative efforts of Richard J. Foster, C. Ben Bowen, Ken Childs, Lucy McAmis, Claudia Cain LaBarre, Linda M. Franklin, Coretta D. Bedsole and Nola Armstrong. Any additions or corrections will be greatly appreciated. Index The Beginning 1960 - 1969 1970 - 1974 |
